Fibromyalgia Increases Pain And Fatigue For Pregnant Women

    April 6, 2021 /

Pregnant women with fibromyalgia (FM) experience significant pain, fatigue and psychological stress, symptoms that are often misdiagnosed or undertreated as a normal part of pregnancy, according to a pilot study by Karen M. Schaefer, D.N.Sc., R.N., assistant professor of nursing at Temple University’s College of Health Professions. Her research, the first to look at the impact of pregnancy on women with FM, was recently presented at the 2006 Association of Women’s Health, Obstetrics and Neonatal Nurses’ convention in Baltimore. Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition commonly found in women that causes pain in the muscles and soft tissues of the body. Many sufferers feel weak from fatigue, and the condition, at…

Could restless sleep cause widespread pain in older people?

    April 6, 2021 /

Researchers in the U.K. report that non-restorative sleep is the strongest, independent predictor of widespread pain onset among adults over the age of 50. According to the study published in Arthritis & Rheumatology (formerly Arthritis & Rheumatism), a journal of the American College of Rheumatology (ACR), anxiety, memory impairment, and poor physical health among older adults may also increase the risk of developing widespread pain. Muscle, bone and nerve (musculoskeletal) pain is more prevalent as people age, with up to 80% of people 65 years of age and older experiencing daily pain. Widespread pain that affects multiple areas of the body — the hallmark feature of fibromyalgia — affects 15%…

Marriage – 6 Ideas in Sickness & Health

    February 24, 2021 /

Grab your cup of coffee or tea and get ready for some “girl talk”! First, let me tell you about me. I have been married for 19 years to my wonderful husband. Anyone married this long knows it isn’t sunshine and rainbows everyday. We have had our share of “rough patches” over the years. He was 19 and I was 21 when we first got together and we both had some growing up to do. Although, it felt like I matured faster than he did when it came to responsibility (of course!). Luckily, we grew up and figured out how to have a stronger marriage. When you say your vows,…

My Love/Hate Relationship With Taking a Shower

    February 24, 2021 /

I didn’t always hate taking a shower. Before I had Fibromyalgia I probably even loved it. It has always been the thing that wakes me up in the morning and makes me feel good. However, now there is more of a love/hate feeling towards the shower. If you have Fibromyalgia or any other chronic pain condition, you probably already know what I’m going to say.  If you don’t have a chronic condition then you are in for a treat; a peak into the daily torture I go through. So, since I have to go to work still and I love my co-workers, I have to shower. It is still the…

    Fibromyalgia & Mental Health

    February 24, 2021 /

**Subject matter in this article may be a trigger for depression, suicide & self harm.** This is a post I have been thinking about for a while but couldn’t decide if I wanted to actually write it. Writing about my physical illness is hard enough, but my mental status feels even more intimate. Can I make myself even more vulnerable than I already have? Can I say anything that would be helpful to anyone else, or will this just be an outlet for myself? These are important questions to ask, because although I get to let my feelings out in this blog I want to do it in a way…

5 Ways To Ease Mom Guilt Quickly

    February 24, 2021 /

Mom Guilt (Dad Guilt), we all have had it at one time or another. I know this because we can’t all be perfect, so sometimes we are going to mess up or disappoint our kids. Even the healthiest of moms (dads) is going to have some mom (dad) guilt over her (his) inadequacies. However, having a chronic illness likeFibromyalgia and being a mom (dad) comes with its own set of “mom (dad) guilt feelings”. I am going to tell you what I feel guilty about and what I do to feel better. First, a little about me as a person and a mom: If you haven’t read my About Me…

    Fibromyalgia Symptoms & Mental Health

    February 24, 2021 /

Have you ever looked at a list of Fibromyalgia symptoms? Looking at these two websites you will see both anxiety and depression listed as symptoms. Here are two reputable websites as proof: WebMD and NFMCPA In fact, it seems that fibromyalgia symptoms and mental health are very much linked together. Pituitary Adenoma What is Your Fibromyalgia Hiding?

    February 24, 2021 /

You never want to hear your doctor say, “your brain MRI came back abnormal.” The fear and panic that goes through your body in this moment is overwhelming. My MRI revealed a pituitary adenoma. I know there are so many of you out there that have gone through this same situation and know just how I felt. For those that have never experienced this, I have written this article to spread awareness. What is a pituitary adenoma anyway? According to Cleveland Clinic “A pituitary adenoma is a growth or tumor on the pituitary. Most pituitary adenomas are slow-growing and benign.” Any adenoma bigger than 1 cm is called a macro…
