  • 3rd is by Kidney biopsy
  • 4th is Ultrasound

Therefore a method for classifying the 5 different stages of lupus nephritis was developed in 1964 by the World Health Organization (WHO). However the International Society of Nephrology and the Society of Renal Pathology established new standards of classification in 2003. Lupus nephritis is not healed. The objective of treatment is to prevent the problem from worsening. Kidney damage can be stopped early, so kidney transplantation cannot be needed.

Treatment can also alleviate symptoms of lupus.

  • So minimizing your intake of protein and salt
  • Because taking medicine to reduce your immune systems
  • So using steroids such as prednisone (Radios)
  • because children or pregnant women will be treated with special consideration.

Therefore kidney failure is the most serious complication of lupus nephritis. so individuals with renal failure either need dialysis or a renal transplant.

However dialysis is normally the first option, but it will not function forever. Because most patients with dialysis eventually require a transplant. Nevertheless, the procurement of a donor organ may take months or years.
