Understanding Stress Incontinence
Unable to control your urination to urinate in some cases is stress incontinence. This disruption is dangerous and humiliating and can lead to social isolation. Some pressure on the abdomen and bladder can cause urinary loss.
The term “stress” should be remembered when describing stress incontinence, in a strictly physical sense. It is about undue urinary pressure and not emotional stress.
However a specific disorder is an overactive bladder. Because overactive bladder or stress incontinence, known as mixing incontinence, may be present in some cases. So you may check the causes of your incontinence by your physician.
Understanding Stress Incontinence Symptoms
Therefore bladder control during physical activity is the main symptom of stress incontinence. Because a few drops of urine or a big, unwanted flow can occur. So while you are, this can happen: laughing, sneezing, coughing, jumping, exercising, doing heavy lifting and engaging in sexual intercourse.
Therefore even standing from a sitting or reclining position sometimes can put extra pressure and cause leakage on your bladder. Because for every person, stress incontinence is different. However every time you engage in an activity, you may not have symptoms and the same activities that cause leakage may not affect a person with stress incontinence.
Understanding Stress Incontinence Sufferers
Women are twice as likely as men to experience involuntary leakage, according to the National Institute for Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. Pregnancy and birth, especially multiple vaginal deliveries, are the common cause of stress incontinence among women. The sphincter and pelvic muscles are extended and weakened during pregnancy and childbirth.
So older age and chronic cough can also lead to stress incontinence. Because the disorder can also have a pelvic surgery side effect.
However some women have stress incontinence only during the week before their time. Because during this phase of the menstrual cycle the NIDDK explains the drop of estrogen which could weaken the urethra. However, it’s not common.
Because prostate operation is a frequent cause of stress incontinence among men. Therefore the prostate gland encircles the male urethra and may cause the urethra to lose its support.
